Work Hard and Educate Children – Mufti Mubajje to Muslims

Standard

mufThe Mufti of Uganda His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje has urged Muslims to work hard, educate their children and feed them well in order to build a strong Muslim community. The Mufti said this while addressing thousands of Muslims in Nyamitanga-Mbarara on December 12th during the last funeral rites of the late Haji Noor Lubega, the former district Secretary for Mbarara Muslim District Council.

In his ongoing campaign to empower Muslims in Uganda, the Mufti has embarked on using Islamic gatherings to promote unity and development. According to him, education and development are synonymous.

“As Muslims leaders, we should use such forums to promote unity and development and not to plan mosque takeovers” said the Mufti

He said that much as there are voices that are trying to saw seeds of divisions and hatred, Uganda Muslim Supreme Council is making a lot of progress.

“The fact that we do not respond to our detractors with outbursts like they do to us does not mean we are weak or doing nothing” he said noting that because of its diplomatic approach, UMSC is progressively demystifying the lies leveled against it.

As he has always done, the Mufti called for Muslim Unity and assured the audience that, UMSC does not agree with those who say that all factions should go back to their camps.

He said “any one who breaks away from UMSC should know that it is a step towards disunity and it only lead to the weakness of the Ummah”.

He said unlike negative groups, all Muslims without hidden agendas are welcome at the UMSC headquarters and to those who want to make reforms, he advised them to take part in the UMSC elections and get elected to the relevant positions.

“Like any other reputable institution, we do not accept outside interference, we only accommodate those people who call for reform through the UMSC structures” he said.

In his remarks, the District Kadhi of Mbarara Sheikh Musa Khamisi commended the Mufti for his accommodative and developmental leadership, adding that Muslims in Mbarara are fully supportive of the UMSC and it development programs.

The district Kadhi noted that he will use his office to advocate for the establishment of an Islamic theological institution which he said is lacking in Mbarara and the entire western region.muf2

He also assured the Mufti that he will do everything in his powers in partnership with other stake holders to increase the standard of education in the Muslim founded schools both primary and secondary in Mbarara Muslim District.

The other speakers of the day included the retired district Kadhi of Mbarara, Sheikh Abdunoor Kaduyu, Sheikh Anas Ssesimba a member of UMSC Majilis Ulama and Fazil Matovu the heir to the late.

In attendance were Mbarara district local government leaders and UMSC officials who included members of the Majilis Ulama and the General Assembly.

How to perform Salat-Tahajud

QIYAM LAYL/TAHAJJUD OR TARAWIH

(By sheikh Muhammad Al-Jibali, Albaani and others).

Qiyaam means “standing” and “Qiyaam layl” means standing at night. In sharia both terms refer to the same thing namely, the voluntary night prayer whose time extends from after Isha prayer to until dawn. It is described as “standing” because it involves long standing in which long potions of Quran are recited.

Other common names for it are Salat ul-layl(the night prayer), Tahajjud (from hajada Remaining awake at night or sleeping and waking up for the night prayer), and Tarawih (resting).

Witr in particular has Two different meanings in the Sunnah. I usually refers to the last one or the three Raka’t of Qiyaam, but sometimes it means the whole of the night prayer.

MISCONCEPTIONS
Some people thing that all those names mean different type of prayer but it is not true they all refer to the same voluntary night prayer and others think that it is only done in Ramadan but the messenger Peace be upon him prayed it every day after it was revealed on him and the same amount of raka’t 13.

Please know may Allah have mercy on us to understand that although many people refer to Tarawih to the voluntary prayer in Ramadan, there is only one nafl (voluntary) prayer at night.

It should be noted that Tarawih was used to refer to the resting of the in between every two raka’t because people were tied and it became a novel name but its true name is Qiyaam.

The benefit

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Jibreel came to me and said: ‘Oh Muhammad: Live as you wish for you will die. Love whom you will for you will be separated. Do as you will for you will be recompensed for it. Know that the most honored of the believer is his standing at night, and his prestige is in not needing
anything from the people ” [Narrated by AlHaakim and AlBaihaqi. It has been graded hasan by AlMundhiri and AlAlbaani]

He (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever stands at night and recites ten ayaat is not recorded among the heedless. Whoever stands at night and recites one hundred ayaat is recorded among the pious. Whoever stands and recites one thousand ayaat is recorded among those who received a huge quantity of good deeds .” [Narrated by Abu Dawood and graded saheeh by AlAlbaani]

Someone told the Prophet peace be upon him) about a man who slept the night until morning time. He said “That is a man in whose ear the Shaytan urinated! ” [Agreed upon]

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The best prayer after the obligatory ones is night prayer” [Narrated by Muslim]

Night Prayer of the Prophet Peace Be Upon Him !

Allah the Most Exalted ordered His Prophet to perform night prayer in the following:

“O you who wraps himself [in clothing], Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little – Half of it – or subtract from
it a little. Or add to it, and recite the Qur’an with measured recitation.” [Holy Quran 73:1-4]
And He said:
“And from [part of] the night, pray with it as additional [worship] for you; it is expected that your Lord will
resurrect you to a praised station.” [Holy Quran 17:79]

Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said: “The Prophet would stand at night until his feet became cracked. I said to him: Why do you do this oh Messenger of Allah, while all of your sins past and future have been forgiven? He said: Shouldn’t I be a thankful slave? ” [Agreed upon]

This proves that thankfulness is not only by the tongue. It is only done by the heart, the tongue, and the limbs. The Prophet (peace be upon him) established the duties of worship in the most complete manner, and in the most perfect form. He did all of this despite the fact that he had to spread the Islamic Aqeedah, teach the Muslims, exert himself in the path of Allah, and fulfill the duties of his family and children.

How to perform the night prayer

Author: Imaam al-Albaani
Source: Qiyaam Ramadaan (pgs. 28-30) (trans. Masjid Ahl ul-Quran was-Sunnah Association, NY, USA)
 [17861]

I spoke in detail about this subject in my book Salaat-ut-Taraaweeh (pg. 101-115), so I felt that I should abridge that discussion here in order to make it easy for the reader and to remind him:

The First Manner:

consists of thirteen rak’aat, which is commenced with two short rak aat.  According to the most correct opinion, these are the two rak’aat of Sunnah prayer offered after ‘Ishaa, or they are two specific rak’aat by which one begins the Night Prayer, as has been stated previously.  Then one prays two very long rak’aat (after that).  Then two more rak’aat are prayed, and then another two rak’aat are prayed.  Then two more rak’aat are prayed and another set of two rak’aat are prayed.  Then witr is made with one rak’ah.

The Second Manner:

consists of thirteen rak’aat.  There are eight rak’aat within them, in which one makes tasleem after every two rak’aat.  Then witr is made with five rak’aat and one does not sit nor make the tasleem except in the fifth rak’ah.

The Third Manner:

consists of eleven rak’aat, in which one makes tasleem after every two rak’aat and then prays witr at the end with one rak’ah.

The Fourth Manner:

consists of eleven rak’aat, in which one prays four rak’aat and makes one tasleem after the four.  The he prays another four in a similar manner and ends it with three rak’aat (for witr).

Would the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) remain in the sitting position after eveyr two rak’aat, when praying a unit of four rak’aat or a unit of three rak’aat?  We do not find a clear answer for this, but remaining in the sitting position (for tashahhud) while doing a unit of three rak’aat is not legislated (in the Religion)!

The Fifth Manner:

consists of eleven rak’aat, in which one prays eight rak’aat and does not sit in any of them except for the eighth rak’ah.  While sitting (in the eighth rak’ah), he makes the tashahhud and sends Salaat on the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) and then stands up again without making the tasleem.  Then he makes witr with one rak’ah and when finished, he makes the tasleem.  This consists of nine rak’aat.  Then he prays two rak’aat after that while in the sitting position.

The Sixth Manner:

One prays nine rak’aat, in which he does not sit except after the sixth rak’ah. Then he makes the tashahhud and sends Salaat on the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) and then stands again without making the tasleem.  Then he makes witr with three rak’aat and when finished, he makes the tasleem, etc. (the rest is the same as the previous manner)

These are the manners in which it is reported that the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) performed the Night Prayer.  It is possible to add other types of manners to it, by subtracting what one wishes from each set of rak’aat until he cuts it down to one rak’ah, acting on the previously mentioned hadeeth of Allaah’s Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam): “So whoever wishes, then let him pray witr with five rak’aat, and whoever wishes, then let him pray witr with three rak’aat, and whoever wishes, then let him pray witr with one rak’ah.”

So if one wants, he can pray these five rak’aat or three rak’aat with one sitting and one tasleem, as is stated in the Second Manner.  And if he wants, he can make tasleem after every two rak’aat, as is stated in the Third Manner, and this is preferred.

As for praying the set of five rak’aat or three rak’aat by sitting after every two rak’aat and not making the tasleem, then we did not find any authentic report that the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) used to do this.  The asl (foundation) is that it is permissible, but since the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) forbade us from praying witr with three rak’aat indicating the reason for that by saying: “And do not liken it to the Maghrib prayer.”

[1]  So then anyone that prays the witr in three rak’aat must not liken it to the Maghrib prayer.  This can be done in two ways:

1. Making the tasleem between the even and odd number rak’ah (i.e. between the second and the third rak’ah). This is what is more strong and preferred.

2. One does not sit between the even and odd number (i.e. he prays three rak’aat straight with one tasleem), and Allaah knows best.

Hajj Abasi Kazibwe-Interview

Hajj Abasi Kazibwe

Muslims were sharply divided by the time Amin took over power but he did everything possible to bring them together. HAMZA Kyeyune traced down officials who worked with the president to set up UMSC and got hajj Abasi Kazibwe who was in charge of security at the Kabale conference.

Excerpts:

Briefly who is hajj Abas Kazibwe?

I was born in Kabwohe (then Bushenyi district and now Sheema district) in 1948. My father muwalimu Muhamud Jagenda (RIP) had few children, and unfortunately did not leave long to see us grow up. He passed on while we were still very young.  We grew up as orphans with my brother Hajj Hamid Sempa Kyeyune (RIP). Life was hard, but that is history now. I’m blessed with over 30 children-all well educated to levels I never reached. My daughter Sophie Kazibwe is pursuing a PhD; others have masters and bachelors, am generally not complaining.

It’s a sad beginning! Does that explain why you joined the army?

Not exactly, I started working with the army as a civilian in the late 60s, I was doing civilian work but when Amin took over, I received military training and joined full service of the army.

Was the formation of the UMSC part of Amin’s manifesto; for he pursued it within two years of his administration?

By the time we took over power in (19)71, Muslims were sharply divided. Such divisions had led to arrest of notable Muslims during the Obote regime but Amin released them.

What I can say is Amin as a Muslim; he felt his religion at heart and was determined to consolidate Muslim unity. Thus, the formation of the UMSC at Kabale was part of the means to consolidate Muslim unity by Amin, which I luckily attended.

Meaning army took part in formation of UMSC?

No exactly. I attended just to oversee security—that of the president. It was just a coincident that by the time Kabale conference was held, I was among the few high ranking Muslim soldiers in Simba battalion in Mbarara. Other notable Muslim soldiers worth noting that attended are Capt. Sheikh Amin Waga who was the leader of Muslims in the army, Sgt. Major Muhamoud, and others I may not recall now.

I followed keenly all the proceedings because in spite of being a soldier, I had strong interest in seeing Muslims unite and progressing. The resolutions were promising; it is unfortunate that Amin’s effort to unite Muslims did not last after his departure. It is also upsetting that all the property Amin gave to Muslims have systematically gone to waste.

More on president Amin; it’s alleged while in Kabale he saw many cabbage farms. So at a stopover he addressed residents thus:  “the people of Kabale are vegetable” Kabale people grow vegetables. Did you hear that?

As much as the president was not fluent in English, I did not ever hear that. Similar claims have been made but, many are exaggerations to simply impress listeners.

Ruling on the adhaan (call to prayer)

Standard

Ruling on the adhaan (call to prayer)

Q: Is the giving of the azan a necesssity?we college students do not have a mosque near our dorm and so pray in a mussala،now do we have to give the azan b4 the prayer،we do hear the sound coming from distant mosques.

A: Praise be to Allaah.

Firstly:
Adhaan in Arabic means proclaiming or announcing. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“And proclaim [adhdhin] to mankind the Hajj (pilgrimage)” [al-Hajj 22:27].
{وَأَذِّن فِي النَّاسِ بِالْحَجِّ}, Transliteration: Wa ‘Adhdhin Fī An-Nāsi Bil-Ĥajji

In sharee’ah terminology it means: worshipping Allaah by announcing the time of the obligatory prayer, using phrases that have been narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), in a specific manner.

Secondly:
The fuqaha’ are agreed that the adhaan is one of the unique features and manifest symbols of Islam, but they differ as to the rulings on it. Some say that it is fard kifaayah (a communal obligation); this is the view of Imam Ahmad and was the view favoured by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah; among contemporary scholars it is the view of Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him).

And some said that it is Sunnah mu’akkadah.

The correct view is that it is fard kifaayah; if someone who is competent does it, the rest are absolved of sin.

The evidence for that comes from the Sunnah.

It was narrated that Maalik ibn al-Huwayrith said: we came to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) when we were young men close in age, and we stayed with him for twenty days. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was merciful and kind; he thought that we were missing our families so he asked us about our families whom we had left behind, then he said, «Go back to your families, and stay with them; teach them and instruct them. When the time for prayer comes, let one of you give the call to prayer and let the oldest of you lead you in prayer» [Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 602; Muslim, 674].

According to a report narrated by al-Bukhaari, 604: «When you both go out, give the call to prayer (adhaan), then the call immediately before the prayer (iqaamah), then let the older of you lead you in prayer».

According to a report narrated by al-Tirmidhi (205) and al-Nasaa’i (634): It was narrated that Maalik ibn al-Huwayrith said: I came to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) with a cousin of mine, and he said, «When you travel, give the call to prayer (adhaan), then the call immediately before the prayer (iqaamah), then let the older of you lead you in prayer» [Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Irwa’ al-Ghaleel, 1/230].

This hadeeth indicates that the adhaan is a communal obligation, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined that only one person should give the call to prayer for a group; he did not tell the whole group to give the call to prayer (See Tawdeeh al-Ahkaam, 1/424).

Al-Nawawi said:
“This indicates that giving the call to prayer and praying in congregation are prescribed for travelers. It also shows that it is encouraged always to give the call to prayer, whether one is travelling or not” (Sharh Muslim, 5/175).

The scholars of the Standing Committee said:
“The adhaan is fard kifaayah (a communal obligation) in a town, and the same applies to the iqaamah. If a person starts to pray without the adhaan or iqaamah, whether out of forgetfulness or ignorance, or for some other reason, the prayer is still valid” (Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah, 6/54).

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said:
“The evidence for them – i.e., the adhaan and iqaamah – being obligatory is the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in a number of ahaadeeth, and the fact that he always did that whether he was travelling or not, and because the time of prayer cannot usually be known without it, and because it serves a purpose and because it is one of the manifest symbols of Islam” (Al-Sharh al-Mumti’, 2/38).

Based on the fact that the adhaan is fard kifaayah, if the adhaan is given in a town and the people can hear it, then the communal obligation has been discharged and there is no need to give the adhaan for every congregation. But it is better and preferable to give the adhaan even if a person is praying alone.

The Standing Committee was asked:
Is it obligatory to give the adhaan over loudspeakers in every mosque in every neighbourhood, knowing that the adhaan from one mosque can be heard by all the Muslims? Or is the adhaan from one mosque sufficient for all the mosques of the neighbourhood?

The answer was: “The adhaan is fard kifaayah, so if a muezzin gives the adhaan in one neighbourhood and all the residents can hear it, that is sufficient. But it is prescribed for the people of each mosque to give the adhaan because of the general meaning of the evidence”.

Based on this, it is preferable for you to give the adhaan, although that is not obligatory for you.

And Allaah knows best.

Musa Mukwaya

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE FAJIR PLAYER (morning prayer)

Muslims should know the great status of fajr in the sight of Allah. Allah (SWT) says (interpretation of the meaning) “Establish regular prayers at the sun’s decline till the darkness of the night, and the recital of the Qur’an in the fajr prayer, for the recital of the fajr is witnessed” (Al-Israa 17:78) In addition, the Prophet (PBUH) said: “Whoever prays the fajr prayer in congregation, it is as if he (or she) had prayed the whole night long.” [Muslim & Tirmidhi]. Now, to show the seriousness of missing this prayer, we present the Hadeeth of the Prophet (PBUH) “The most burdensome prayers for the hypocrites are ishaa and fajr, but if they only knew what they contain, they would come even if they had to crawl.” [Ahmad]
The practical aspect of dealing with the problem includes a number of steps which we can take in order to get used to praying fajr regularly in congregation:

  • Having a sincere intention and being determined, when going to sleep, that you will get up for fajr
  • Remembering Allaah as soon as you wake up. Allah’s Apostle (PBUH) said, “During your sleep, Satan knots three knots at the back of the head of each of you, and he breathes the following words at each knot, ‘The night is long, so keep on sleeping.’ If that person wakes up and remembers Allah, then one knot is undone. When he (or she) performs ablution (wudu) the second knot is undone. And when he (she) prays, all the knots are undone, and he (she) gets up in the morning lively and in a good mood, otherwise he (she) gets up dull and gloomy.” [Bukhary]
  • Sleeping early. According to an authentic Hadeeth, the Prophet (PBUH) used to dislike sleeping before ishaa and talking after it. The kind of talk that is discouraged in this case, as the commentators explain, is that in which there is no clear benefit. However, if it is for good reason, such as studying, speaking to a guest, or spending time with one’s family, then there is nothing wrong with it. This has no connection with the reasons for which many people stay up late nowadays, to do wrong and commit sins.
  • Family members should encourage one another, and likewise roommates sharing the same apartment.
  • If you know a friend who normally wakes up on time, ask him or her to give you a call at prayer time. I have been using this technique on and off for quite some time now, and have found it to be extremely effective.
  • If you find that you switch off the alarm clock then go back to sleep, you might want to place it a few feet from your bed. This way you will actually have to get up and walk to the clock in order to turn it off.
  • Try using an alarm clock with the snooze feature.
  • Avoid eating too much before going to bed. Overeating makes you fall into a deep, heavy sleep.
  • Finally, true devotion to Allah is the best thing to motivate a person to get up for prayer, because Allah alone controls all means of help. I ask Allah Almighty to facilitate this prayer for us, and to guide us to what pleases Him.

Tips on How to Increase Your Iman

Advice on How to be Good

Do not limit yourself to deep words and profound spiritual allusions but make provision for the afterlife before death comes, when fine words will be lost and the rak`as you prayed by night or day will remain..
Give voluntary charity as much as possible, for you owe more than merely the zakat obligatory. Make provision for the afterlife by giving while you have health and want to cling to your money out of fear of poverty, seeing life before you. Allah Most High says, “Whoever is watchful against the stinginess of his own soul, those shall be the successful” (Koran 59:9), meaning they shall be saved.
Never obey anyone of Allah’s servants (even father or mother) in an act of disobedience to Allah, for there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator.
Do not wrong another person, for wrongs done to others are clouds of darkness on the Day of Judgement. Wronging others includes not doing what Allah has obliged you to do for them.
Beware of enmity against anyone who has said, “La ilaha ill Allah’ (There is no god but Allah), for Allah has honored them with faith, and particularly the righteous of them, for Allah Most High says in a rigorously authenticated (sahih) hadith, “He who makes an enemy of a friend of Mine, I declare war against,”
Tell the truth when you speak. It is one of the worst betrayals to tell your brother something he thinks you are being honest about when the matter is otherwise.
Be honest in your clothes and dress. It is an outrage against Allah to appear to His servants in the guise of the righteous while secretly contradicting it with the works of the wicked.
Recite the Koran and contemplate its meanings. Reflect while reading it on the qualities Allah has praised, with which He describes the people He loves. Acquire these qualities yourself and shun those Allah has condemned. Do your utmost of memorize the Holy Koran by acts as you do by words.
Never explain a verse of Holy Koran by your own opinion, but check as to how it has been understood by the scholars of Sacred Law and men of wisdom who came before you. If you comprehend something else by it and what you have understood contradicts the Sacred Law, forsake your wretched opinion and fling it against the wall.
Beware lest you ever say anything that does not conform to the Sacred Law. Know that the highest stage of the perfected ones (rijal) is the Sacred Law of Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace). And know that the exoteric that contravenes the exoteric is a fraud.
Take care to eat lawful food bought with a lawful income, for the entire body of someone who eats what is lawful, his hearing, eyesight, hands, and feet, are disposed to obey Allah whether he wishes to or not; while the whole body of someone who eats the unlawful is disposed to do wrong whether he wants to or not.
Keep the thought of Allah Mighty and Majestic ever before you with respect to what He takes from you and what He gives. He takes away nothing except that you may show patience and win His love, for He loves the patient, and when He loves you, He will treat you as a lover does his beloved. And so too, when He gives to you, He bestows blessings upon you that you may give thanks, for He loves the thankful.
Do not walk a step, take a bite, or make a move without intending thereby to draw nearer to Allah.
Perform the remembrance of Allah (dhikr) silently and aloud, in a group and when alone, for Allah Most High says, “Remember Me: I will remember you” (Koran 2:152).
It is sufficient as to its worth that Allah is remembering you as long as you are remembering Him.
Give frequent utterance to the axiom of Islam “La ilaha ill Allah” (There is no god but Allah), for it is the greatest invocation (dhikr), as is mentioned in the hadith, “The best thins I or any of the prophets before me have said is ‘La ilaha ill Allah.”’
And in a hadith qudsi, “Were the seven heavens and seven earths placed on one side of a balance scale and’`La ilaha ill Allah’ placed on the other, the latter would outweigh them all.”
Train you children in points of Islamic behavior so they grow up to be Muslims who love Islam and respect the religion of Islam.
Do not seek exaltation on earth, but have humility in whatever degree Allah has raised you to. For Allah has brought you forth from the earth, you mother, and it is unseemly to exalt yourself above her. As a hadith says, “Allah has charged Himself to raise nothing in this world, save that He will lower it again.”
So if you are such a thing, you may expect to be lowered by Allah.
Always visit those who are ill, as it helps one reflect and take admonition, for someone ill is close to Allah. One has only to consider that the sick person has no one to call upon but Allah, nothing to reflect on but Allah, and his condition reminds one of the blessing of health (al-Hall al-sadid li ma astashkalahu al-murid (y46), 29-32).

Ten Greatest Days

Standard

Even for those not performing the pilgrimage, Hajj, the first ten days of this month are considered very sacred and a time for increased reflection, seeking Allah’s forgiveness, doing good and various other forms of worship.

Prophet Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him) has said about the first ten days of Dhul Hijja: “There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.” The people asked, “Not even Jihad for the sake of Allah?” He said, “Not even Jihad for the sake of Allah, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing (Bukhari).

While any good deed done for the sake of Allah according to the way He approves will be rewarded immensely during the first ten days, Insha Allah, some of the more specific actions mentioned in the Traditions of the Prophet are as follows:

1. Fasting

In terms of fasting, it is particularly encouraged to fast on the ninth day of Dhul-Hijja, known in Arabic as Yawm Arafa. The Prophet used to fast on this day (al Nisai and Abu Dawud). Fasting on this day will expiate a Muslim’s sins for two years.

2. Dhikr

The verbal remembrance of Allah is another meritorious act during these first ten days of Zul Hijjah. The Prophet upon him) encouraged Muslims to recite a lot of Tasbeeh (“Subhan-Allaah”), Tahmeed (“Al-hamdu Lillaah”) and Takbeer (“Allahu akbar”) during this time.

The Takbeer may include the words “Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, la ilaha ill-Allah; wa Allahu akbar wa Lillahi’l-hamd (Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great, there is no god but Allah; Allah is Most Great and to Allah be praise),” as well as other phrases.

Men are encouraged to recite these phrases out loud and women quietly.

3. Sacrifice

One of the good deeds that will bring a person closer to Allah during these ten days is offering a sacrifice, by choosing a high-quality animal and fattening it, spending money for the sake of Allah.

The Prophet Said: Whoever can afford to offer a sacrifice but does not do so, let him not approach our place or prayer(i.e. attend Eid Prayers. (Reported by Ahmad and Ibn Maajah)

4. Sincere repentance

One of the most important things to do during these ten days is to repent sincerely to Allah and to give up all kinds of disobedience and sin. This means more than just a verbal expression of sorrow for past misdeeds. It also requires a firm resolution to avoid making the same mistakes in the future by giving up bad habits and behavior while sincerely turning to Allah.

Generally, all good deeds are rewarded highly at this blessed time. These actions include praying, reading Quran, making Dua (supplication), giving in charity and being good to our families.

RIGHTS OF NEIGHBOURS

Standard

Apart from a man’s parents, children and near relatives, there also exists a permanent association and contact between him and his neighbours.  The state of his association – be it good or otherwise has a great influence on his life and morals.  The Prophet (S.A.W.) had attached great importance to this and has constantly urged the Ummah to pay due regard to the rights of neighbours to the extent that he had declared good neighbourliness to be part of Imaan (Faith) and an essential requisite for salvation.

Allah, the Exalted, says:

“(Show) kindness unto parents, and unto near kindred, and orphans, and the needy, and unto the neighbour who is of kin (unto you) and the neighbour who is not of kin, and the fellow-travelers and the wayfarer and (the slaves) whom your right hands possess.”  Quran 4:36

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said, “By Allah, he is not a believer! By Allah, he is not a believer! By Allah, he is not a believer.” It was asked, “Who is that, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “One whose neighbour does not feel safe from his evil”. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

This Hadith reveals that hurting or troubling a neighbour is such a serious offence that it causes Allah’s Wrath, and thus punishment in Hell.

In a related Hadith, A Muslim asked the messenger of Allah “O messenger of Allah, tell me a saying that I will not ask anybody about it after you. Messenger of Allah said: “Be a Mushin (one who does good deeds to satisfy Allah)”. The Muslim man returned and asked: “How do I know that Iam a Mushin?” The Messenger (PBUH) of Allah said: “Ask your neighbour”
“My neighbour, am I a Mushin?” if he says “Yes”, so thanks to Allah, if no, Ask him`(your neighbour) for forgiveness.

Ibn `Umar and `Aishah (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Jibril kept recommending treating neighbours with kindness until I thought he would assign a share of inheritance”. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Good Treatment of Neighbours Is An Essential Condition Of Imaan-Faith)

Abdullah bin `Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “The best of companions with Allah is the one who is best to his companions, and the best of neighbours to Allah is the one who is the best of them to his neighbour”.
[At-Tirmidhi].
Anas (R.A.), related that the Prophet (S.A.W.) said “He has not affirmed faith in me (i.e. he is not a true follower of Islam) Who eats to his satisfaction and sleeps comfortably at night while his neighbour goes hungry – and he is aware of it.”

How astonishing that such a wide gap has occurred between these teachings and traditions and the actual conduct of the Muslims as a whole!  It is extremely difficult for an unknowing person to believe that such, really, were the teachings of the Holy Prophet of Islam (S.A.W.).
Nevertheless, these traditions and teachings explain clearly the importance of good and kind treatment to neighbours and they are a clear admonition to those who remain indifferent to the needs and difficulties of their neighbours and care nothing for them.

ABLUTION (WUDUU)

Standard

God has decreed four steps for ablution. Ablution is very simple and easy as you can see in the verse that explains it.

O you who believe, when you observe the Contact Prayers (Salat), you shall: (1) wash your faces, (2) wash your arms to the elbows, (3) wipe your heads, and (4) wash your feet to the ankles. If you were unclean due to sexual orgasm, you shall bathe. If you are ill, or traveling, or had any digestive excretion (urinary, fecal, or gas), or had (sexual) contact with the women, and you cannot find water, you shall observe the dry ablution (Tayammum) by touching clean dry soil, then rubbing your faces and hands. GOD does not wish to make the religion difficult for you; He wishes to cleanse you and to perfect His blessing upon you, that you may be appreciative.

[Quran 5:6]

Water For To Be Used For Wudhu: -

1. Rain water, Well water, spring, sea or river water, Water of melting snow or hail, or Water of a big tank or pond.  Water left over after drinking by human beings, Halaal animals (e.g. cows, goats, and pigeons is clean).

Water That Can’t Be Used For Wudhu:

Water that has changed its colour, taste and smell or has become thick, Water extracted from fruit and trees, or in which najis has fallen (e.g. urine, blood, wine); Water left over after drinking by animals (whose meat is not eaten except a cat), e.g. dogs, pigs or animals of prey

THE ACTUAL ABLUTION (WUDHU‘)

1. Draw the intention that the act is for the purpose of worship and purity, start by saying Bismillah. Face the direction of the Holy kaaba if possible.

2. Using clean water, Wash both hands up to the wrists together three times, ensuring that every part including between the fingers is wetted by water

3. Taking a handful of water into the mouth, rinse the mouth thrice. It is sunnat to use a miswaak during wudhu

4. Snuff water contained in the right palm into the nose and then eject the water with the left hand (thrice)

5. Wash the face with both hands, ear to ear, from the hairy part of the forehead to chin, three times

6. Wash the right arm thoroughly from the wrist to the elbow (make sure the elbow is thoroughly wetted) three times. Repeat the same with the left hand.

7. Run moistened hands over the head from forehead to the back and back to forehead (once) – and Wipe the inside of the ears with the forefingers and their outer sides with the thumbs (once). This should be done with wet fingers.

8. Wash both feet (beginning with the right foot) up to the ankles starting from the right and ensuring that all parts particularly between the toes are wetted. Use the left hand for cleaning of toes and washing of the feet.

The process ends with the recitation of the Kalimatush-Shahad
“ASH-HADU ALLA ILAHA ILLALLAHU WA-ASH-HADU
AN-NA MUHAMMADAN ‘ABDUHU-WA-RASULUH”

At this stage the ablution is complete, and the person who has performed it is ready to start to start his prayer. When the ablution is valid a person may keep it as long as he can, and may use it for as many prayers as he wishes. But it is preferable to renew it as often as possible.

If you had performed complete “Wudhu” before putting on your socks (must be of a thick material), it is not necessary to remove them when you want to repeat the performance of “Wudhu”. It is enough to wipe over the socked feet with wet hands. This may be done for a period of one day for a resident, (and three days on journey) on the condition that the socks are never removed. If they are removed, it is necessary to re-wash the feet for Wudhu.

Nakaselo complex belongs to Muslim sunni association of Uganda

Standard

AAWW, Brothers and Sisters,

Nakaselo complex belongs to Muslim sunni association of Uganda of Which Hajj Shabudin is the chairman. Its constitution is very clear on dissolving the association (it should not sell any property to any individual but should hand it over to another organization with similar objectives). This is why when the Indians were chanced away from Uganda, the property went to UMSC which had similar objectives.

Now here comes Tablig Community of Uganda which is headed by Amir Kaketo trying to upgrade Nakaselo complex including the mosque. Why not Uganda Muslim Sunni Association of Uganda but Tablig community? Let us investigate that just as concerned Muslims, to put conflicting issues to the end as much as I believe that all property of Muslims belongs to Muslims.

Who has a say on Uganda Tablig Community in Uganda.

I believe that apart from Members of Tablig community in Uganda (who are subscribed in their memorandum of understanding and the constitution, (apart from the high sense of belongingness we Muslims have) none of us has a any authority on them.

If the Members of Muslims Suni association were belligerent, that one holds a case. But for me, Katelega and others, it is because we have been disappointed before and we are still being disappointed and being guided by the principle of Muslim brotherhood that we feel   that we own Nakaselo Complex.

Even me, am not happy with the development of Nakasero mosque (If it was under UMSC) and the leasing of all those years but remember we are under the law of Uganda and when it comes to ownership, it is very clear. We are going to talk and threaten, but at the end of it all, we will all become looses because of ignorance, jealousy and advancement of personal interest.

On the issues that were raised on William street, all Muslims in Uganda have a stake (even those who died and yet to be born)

But to be honest to you my brothers and sisters, I have been involved in Muslims Sunni association affairs and was thrown in the pit technically and am still bleeding because of my high sense of belongingness. So am well informed than most of you who are discussing the issues of Nakaselo.

To me the issue of Nakaselo, we need to give Amir Kaketo benefit of doubt and thank him for even having consulted us to look for people to develop  Nakaselo copelex. We need to beg him to know that the people who set all those  projects, had  responsibilities  and feeling where they would  spend the money that put them up, but because of the respect they had for Allah, had to  put up all  those projects for the sake of Islam.

So as much as Nakasero belongs to an NGO that is owned by the few, let us be guided by the NGO guideline which stipulates that any ngo to be dissolved should surrender the property to a similar organization-in this case any Muslim organization.

So, the issue to be determined above is not to cause mayhem where we are not well informed. We should be thinking how to differentiate the property where we have a definite say and where we are just concerned with no teeth to bit-Allah knows best.

Let all the property of Muslims remain in the hands of Muslims and I think the worst Amir Kaketo can do, is to bungle the property he never put in place as an individual

May Allah constantly give us wisdom to learn how to interpret each other’s communication without mistaking it for the purposes of maintaining the brotherhood that He tells us in the Quran?

Redevelopment of Nakasero Mosque

Standard

Assalam alaikum, brothers and Sisters
Am a little disturbed that there are Muslims opposed to the plans to redevelope Nakasero Msoque.
And, the biggest disappointment is that Sheikh Sulaiman Kakeeto has tried to be as transparent as possible.
As a regular worshiper at Nakasero Mosque i don’t remember how many times Kaketo has explained to us what steps he is undertaking to change the shape of Nakasero Mosque.
I also had a one on one with shiekh Kaketo and also looked at the lease documents with a government seal in the names of Muslim Sunni Association, why are we opposed to development as Muslims.
Its very evident that Nakasero is the only building around that area, which is in bad shape yet its on the main entry point from Entebbe, but it appears there are Muslims whose intention is keep Muslims in the old age.
I think this cause if very important and we all need to support Kaketo in his endevour. Hajji Mutaasa Kafero who is undertaking the redevelopment is a Muslim just like the rest of us. Please, lets support this effort.
It today’s World its only partnership that can help an community like ours, which is orphaned to over challenges of the new era, i rest my case.

Marriage between a non-Muslim man and a Muslim woman is forbidden and invalid. It is absolutely not permissible under any circumstance in Islamic law (shari’a) of Allah, for a non-Muslim man to marry a Muslim woman, as Allah says in the Quran:
“And give not (your daughters) in marriage to disbelievers until they believe.” (2:221)
Allah also says: “They (Muslim women) are not lawful (wives) for the disbelievers nor are the disbelievers lawful (husbands) for them.” (60:10)
If a Muslim woman marries a kaafir (disbeliever), then she is a zaaniyah (adulteress), the children are the children of zina (fornication) and her punishment is the punishment for adultery. If she was ignorant of the ruling then she is excused, but they must be separated, and there is no need for a divorce because the marriage is null and void.
